International Incident

Not much going on today, except HOLY CRAP AN AVALANCHE OF HARRY POTTER STILLS. Also, Sister Girl has gotten a Brittany spaniel puppy (she's living in an apartment on her own now, not here with us, so it's very much her first pet as an independent adult), and he is tiny and and skinny and recovering from some stomach parasite and darling. I held Pete in the car when she took him to the vet this morning, and despite how sick and sad he was when she first got him earlier this week, he kept looking up at me and breaking out into this huge grin, like, "This is the sweet life!" AWWWW.

So I just had two ladies in the store.
They didn't shut up the entire fucking time they were in here.

You know when you see a bunch of hens clucking over top of each other as a comparison to how women act around each other?

It's totally accurate with that generation (the 50-somethings). They kept talking over each other, feigning class and sophistication and "Oh I know THIS person who was in the Napa Valley and oh my they went to this wiiiiiiine tasting and-"
"Oh I LOOVE wine I have a wine stopper from this vineyard-"
"Oh mYYyYYy look at this [jewelry] it's so---"
"Oh myyyyyYyy yes!!!"

All with gasps of amazement. I sold them some overpriced biodegradable soap that I actually use when I go camping or canoing or whatever, since you need to clean off in a river and not destroy a water supply whilst you do. But I know it's going in a color coordinated bathroom with monogrammed towels. And that's fine I reckon.

They just annoyed me.

Hey, cool. That's like 2 miles from me. I never did get around to seeing The Golden Compass, and that's great timing on their part for showing Batman Begins.

DC and the Harbor are way too crowded for the 4th, but downtown Columbia might be doable. I'm not a big 4th of July person, but driving a couple miles to join the local festivities is probably better than doing nothing at home.

I drive past that place ALL the time...how did I never notice concerts or outdoor movie screenings going on there?

Pulled a double shift at the pub yesterday. 10 am - 11 pm, more or less, with little break.

Ugh... I feel like an effing zombie. I'm actually at work (the jewelry store) right now, and then I leave here at 3, and go to the pub to work from 4-11. I'm gonna probably be rolling in ca$h but seriously, I'm never going to have time to spend any of it.

It looks like there are still a few examples of this old issue knocking around (oddly enough, 2 requests came up at once recently, one of which is here) so I thought a quick post about it so that people know what's going on.

We only ever observed this problem with portfolorid, I believe but there's no fundamental reason it couldn't happen with other styles. The way it presented was that the main SB page would load correctly but gallery pages would time out if the gallery had any pictures in it.

The cause, if I remember rightly, was that it was possible to set a thumbnail size in the customization wizard that hadn't been defined in the style (this is a sentance that is only likely to make sense to you if you know S2 for scrapbook and even then only possibly). This basically got the parser confused and resulted in a timeout. To resolve, we would just tell the user to use a different style as their default. I think it would also be possible to resolve it by getting them to remove their customizations, as the default should work but the orginal outbreak was so long ago that I'm not sure if we tried that - anyone who wants to experiment in this area should feel free if we get any more requests.

The option has since been removed from the customization wizard so we can't get new cases of this but if someone hasn't changed their customizations for a long time then it's still possible that this is the bug their experiencing so if they open a request where their galleries time out, try getting them to change their style and see if it resolves things.

For all of my railing against reality television, I am a HUGE SUCKER for dance reality shows. (And dance movies, for that matter. If there's a film about an urban teenager overcoming tremendous odds through the power of dance, I AM SO THERE.)

My new job (where I work as an aide with a very cool woman in her apartment with her very cool roommates) gave me the opportunity to watch So You Think You Can Dance tonight.

I'm hooked.

During the commercial break, one of the roommates showed me a routine from earlier in the season. I was so moved, and she loved it so much, that we watched it twice. And now, back at home, I'm watching the video over and over again instead of sleeping, and when I'm not doing that, I'm dancing around to "Bleeding Love" on my iPod.

Today, I'm 22.

Hi all! Thanks to everybody who has notified me regarding the broken images. My friend recently reallocated his domain so my image gallery was inaccessible. He has since given me a new domain to host my images (thanks Ben!!) so I will begin the process of redirecting all the image links this weekend.

Sorry for the inconvenience, and the lack of updates lately - my first committee meeting is coming up soon and as such I haven't had much energy to do much outside of school lately.

Past 10 days, next 10 days:

Work day: Wake up, bike to restaurant job, come home, shower, work on freelance.
Day off: work on freelance.
Comic work wedged in where I can fit it.

Broke, so no going out.
